Asking Good Questions: Teaching Towards a Critical Consciousness Part 1

Two days after the election, I declared that I would no longer tiptoe around matters of social justice.  When I was asked to design a professional development session on having deep conversations with young children, I didn’t have to think very hard about how this topic connected with social justice.  My viewpoint is that the traditional paradigm of education in America completely misses the mark of teaching young children to be thoughtful and critical thinkers.  This mindset pervades how we interact with our youngest citizens in the interactions and questions we ask young children.
